Chelia, one of the best sandcastle builders and reigning Sandcastle Champion, will not have the opportunity to chase another title this year. This comes on the heels of a report by Gaardian that found out Chelia has been using "non-regulation sand" this year at some major events, like the Sho'Aram Qualifiers and the Masquerade Island Major.

Her fans took to Chitter when the news broke, upset that something so minor could ruin the reputation and budding stardom for Chelia, who nearly swept all competition this year, only placing 2nd at the Astral Travels Mid-Major.

The sand used that has disqualified Chelia is a hybrid mixture from the Misty Shores of Yarr and the coastline of the Jungles of Verume. According to the committee that grades and checks the sand, this sand in particular is "more dense" and "can hold its shape much longer", which makes it slightly more malleable than other available options.

"Upon further review, we have found the sand used by Chelia at both the Sho'Aram Qualifier and the Masquerade They're just trying to help Mickjaeg win... he brings starpower and sponsorships that some preteen girl from an island simply can't.Island Major was not legal for sanctioned events; rather, it's meant to be used at a lower, or exhibition level, to help participants reach that next level," said a spokesperson for the committee. "Participants are meant to use the sand at the location for the events, not import sand from another area to give them a competitive advantage."

Chelia herself has not commented or given a statement on the matter, but her PR team has said they will be looking into this ruling and seeing if they could get it reversed. One person did speak to us on the condition of anonymity, due to how cutthroat and dangerous the world of sandcastle building is at the competitive level.

The next Sandcastle Major takes place in Svrogan's Logging Camp, which has a strange element to it; woodchips have been integrated into the sand.
